The Early Childhood department offers an outstanding education for children from age three (Early Childhood 1) through age five (Early Childhood 3). Following the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, students are engaged in developmentally appropriate activities which promote learning through inquiry.

Our programme features certified Early Childhood specialists at all levels. We have purpose built Early Childhood classrooms with child scale facilities and furniture, a rich array of instructional and manipulative materials, a large covered outdoor activity area and a segregated Early Childhood playground, providing a safe, stimulating environment for exploration and discovery.  Our students utilize the full range of excellent facilities and staff at BIS. In Early Childhood 1 - 2 this includes specialist support for Music, Indonesian Language and Culture and Swimming. In addition to the above, the Early Childhood 3 programme has specialist support for Art, Physical Education, and Library Skills.

EC2 and EC3 are combined in a multi-age class of children aged 4-6 years.  A composite class allows us to continue our current approach to teaching which aims to deliver child-centred learning with an emphasis on teaching to the level of each child.

The core EC1 programme runs from 8.10 – 11.15 every day Monday – Friday. We offer EC1 parents flexible enrollment options.  If you wish your child’s school day to be longer, you can choose one or two extensions to the core programme.  The first extension runs from 11.15 – 13.00 and the second from 13.00 – 14.45.  The core EC2 programme runs from 8.10 – 13.00 every day Monday – Friday. We also offer EC2 parents flexible enrollment options.  If you wish your child’s school day to be longer, you can choose the extension to the core programme which runs from 13.00 – 14.45.  From 13.00 – 14.45 the EC2 students join the EC1 group.  EC3 follows a full day schedule from 08:10 a.m. – 14:45 p.m.

Parent involvement in their child's educational development is encouraged and we are proud of the interaction between parents, teachers and students. This shared partnership between school and home allows our students to achieve their fullest potential. Parent-Teacher conferences, progress reports and Student Led conferences are built into the academic calendar to allow parents the opportunity to keep abreast of their child's development.
