“What matters is not the absorption and regurgitation either of facts or of pre-digested interpretations of facts, but the development of powers of the mind or ways of thinking which can be applied to new situations and new presentations of facts as they arise.”  Alec Peterson, first IB Director General 2003:47

Consistent with the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate, BIS curriculum for students in the middle years builds on inquiry skills from the Primary Years Program while cultivating the critical thinking skills necessary for the Diploma Program.  Designed for students aged 11-16, our program provides for inquiries into what it means to be internationally minded, framing a curriculum that promotes multilingualism, intercultural understanding and global engagement.

Core subjects in the Middle Years include English, Individuals and Societies, Science, Mathematics, Physical Education and Indonesian Studies.  Electives include the additional language options of Chinese, French and Indonesian, as well as Design, Visual Arts, Film and Music.  Our program encourages explorations of our common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, and teaches students to collaborate, to communicate and to question.  Our teachers place as much value in the “Why” of learning as in the “What” through a “living curriculum” that is relevant to the world outside of school.
