On August 18th, the PYP students held their own Indonesian Independence Day celebration during Fabulous Friday. Thank you to all our parents and staff who came out to support the event! Merdeka!

Bandung Independent School wishes Brayen Brata-Coolen (Class of 2012 alumni) good luck representing the Indonesian show jumping team during the Sea East Asian Games (SEAG) 2017, 26-28 August in Kuala Lumpur.

Mrs. Nicolette Brata-Coolen

During the August 16th Middle Years Assembly Time, students in grades 6 – 10  celebrated the 72nd Indonesian Independence Day by participating in several traditional games, including a bakiak race, a marble relay, eating kerupuk, a sack race and catching eels. Students were organized into teams which included students from all grade levels and students from Grade 10 were assigned as group leaders. During the event, the students demonstrated the IB learner profile by communicating effectively, being open-minded as they appreciated the values and traditions of Indonesian culture, and being risk-takers as they showed determination and perseverance during the competition.

Thank you to assistant teachers, janitors and Middle Years advisors for supporting and supervising these super fun activities. We hope to run the same events next school year!

Thank you to the four parents who have very kindly volunteered to form this year's FoBIS leadership team. Congratulations to all of them on their new roles and we thank them in advance for their hard work!

This past week, teachers Irma Angela and Pak Dadan visited two local schools, TK in Sarijadi: TK Al Inayah and Dewi Sartika BKB. to deliver some much needed unused teaching resources. The Early Childhood launched this service program at the end of last academic year when EC teachers Nicolette, Irma Angela, Afiani and Pak Dadan met with the representative from TK Al Inayah to discussed the needs of the school and how BIS could help to make a contribution. They discovered that the schools lacked sufficient teaching resources and needed professional development for teachers. In response, EC teachers organized and collected unused teaching resources to be donated to the schools. Thank you to all EC teachers for organizing this community service!

Ms. Amy
