PYP Dunia is the network of PYP schools in Indonesia and as such provides many opportunities for collaboration and sharing between member schools. Twice a year the network holds their PYP Coordinator meeting. Thank you very much to Ms. Drezgic who organised for the first day of their most recent meeting to take place at BIS and who led some very valuable professional dialogue about aspects of the PYP such as collaboration and the Exhibition.  We welcomed more than 20 educators from PYP schools across Indonesia and EC2-3, Grade 2 and Grade 5 students also shared their learning with the visitors, who left very impressed by what is happening in our PYP programme. The focus on the second day was on Special Educational Needs so Mrs. Brata as well as Ms. Drezgic joined the Friday sessions at Penabur School.

Huge congratulations to our IISSAC Swim Team – both teams, Boys and Girls, were runners up at the tournament in Bali! The competition was very tough but this didn’t stop our team, and all swimmers had excellent results. Thank you to Pak Deni, Mrs Brata, and Mrs. Moya Healy along with Coach Chairul and Coach Kudus, who worked together with Coach Lingling and accompanied the BIS swim team to Bali, as well as everyone else involved in the success of the BIS team!  Special thanks also go to the parents whose support was amazing, both before and during the tournament.

Well done, BIS Dragons, we are very proud of you!

At Friday’s assembly Grade 4 presented their learning from their recent ‘How we express ourselves’ unit which focused on how artists develop their personal style through the influence of other artists and the world around them.  They led the other elementary classes through presentations and art activities that they had planned and set up.  We learnt about art movements such as cubism and surrealism and the other students really enjoyed trying out different techniques and skills, under the guidance of their Grade 4 ‘teachers’.  Parents also enjoyed having a go at using the different art tools and media.  Well done Grade 4 – you were creative and expressive artists as well as skillful teachers and communicators!

Well done Grade 5 - the PYP exhibition was a great success!  The central idea, written by the students, was: ‘Our choice of response and action make a difference within local and global communities.’  The visitors to the soft opening of the exhibition included classes from different grade levels and teachers from another PYP school. On the official exhibition day, student-led conferences were also happening, so many students with their parents visited either before or after their conferences.

Thank you to the Grade 5 teachers, especially Mrs. Marijana Drezgic and Ms. Fika, and to the BIS community members who supported the exhibition.  A big thank you to the mentors and the Grade 5 parents.  Congratulations, Grade 5!  We look forward to seeing your reflections and comments.

During conferences teachers hope that parents will gain an insight into their child's learning. The students were responsible for leading the conference, and sharing the process with their parents through a variety of learning situations across several curriculum areas. They explained and reflected upon work samples that had been previously been selected (either by students or teachers or by both) to share with their parents. I observed many students being confident and reflective communicators and thinkers. The single-subject stations such as PE and Music also offered students the opportunity to teach their parents new skills.

Thank you to all parents who participated in the conferences.
