What a special morning for our Grade 5 students.  Their graduation was attended by parents and other family members, teachers and students from several classes, including Grade 6 students ready to welcome Grade 5 to Secondary School. The speech given by each Grade 5 student was a clear and heartfelt summary of their feelings about Grade 5. We are very proud of this very special and unique group of students, all of whom have grown and learnt so much during their time with us! The students read out their speeches and also danced with enthusiasm and confidence. We then presented the students with certificates as they welcomed ‘up the stairs’ by Grade 6.  Thank you to the parents whose support we have really appreciated. Special thanks to Ms. Drezgic and to Ms. Fika and to all the Grade 5 teachers!

Grade 5, you will be greatly missed by PYP students and teachers in August.  Congratulations and good luck in Grade 6!

Ms Mary

Many, many thanks to FoBIS who organised this final event for 2016-17.  After a ‘buka puasa’, students, parents and staff enjoyed the delicious food, much of it donated by FoBIS and other parents. The Silent Art Auction was an opportunity to appreciate the art work of our PYP and Secondary students, with the proceeds going to the Refugee Learning Nest.  Students and teachers and also a very talented parent performed at the Music Café and receive a lot of applause – what talented musicians we have in our community! Thank you to Mr. Ashworth, Mr. Grennan and Pak Dikri.  I was also really impressed by the creativity and thought behind the Grade 3 presentation and other videos created to say farewell to me – thank you!

A memorable part of the evening was when FoBIS donated the funds they have raised this year for BIS, the Education Development Project and the Lodge Foundation.  We are very grateful to FoBIS for their hard work and generosity and much appreciation goes to the leadership team: Mrs. Mathana, Mrs. Jermaine and Mrs. Boyoung (Sally).  These three ladies have been amazing!

Thank you to all who joined and supported the Community Farewell Event.

Ms. Mary

Grade 3 did a wonderful job teaching us all about the importance of conserving finite resources at last week’s Fabulous Friday.  In pairs they taught cross level groups of EC3- Grade 5 students about aspects of ‘Sharing the planet’ such as endangered animals, water conservation and water pollution.  These groups then presented skits to show everyone the importance of taking responsibility for the environment. Grade 3 ended by promoting the ‘BIS water bottle’ – a project that they organised from start to finish in an effort to eliminate the use of plastic water bottles at BIS.  Their water bottles will soon be on sale.

Well done Grade 3 students and teachers!

Ms. Mary
