Vision, Mission, and Values

40 Years of Excellence

Bandung Independent School is an exceptional school in a special city. The school values an international programme, embraces diversity, appreciates the host country and combines an inquiry based approach with high academic standards. The school was established in 1972 and now serves the needs of the expatriate and local community in Bandung and Jakarta area.

The Pre-school to Grade 12 student population is approximately 200 and represents approximately 20 nationalities. The language of instruction is English with Indonesian, Chinese and French offered as additional languages. BIS is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. We are authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the IB Diploma Programme (DP).

The student population is small but we have all the facilities to offer a high quality, rounded programme. Our facilities include homeroom classes, specialist classes, a library media centre, IT lab, an auditorium, a 25 metre swimming pool, a dedicated covered sports court as well as an outside football field. The classrooms are well resourced and a substantial percentage of the annual budget is dedicated to keeping our resources and facilities up to date.

The school is unique in the city with international teachers from Australia, China, France, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, the Netherlands, the UK and the US. Our teachers have extensive experience in international schools around the globe. The school is renowned to be a friendly and caring place. We know our students well, follow their development and communicate regularly with families about their children’s development We believe that a warm and caring environment supports our students reaching high standards. We also believe in the importance of involving the family in the school.

We welcome parents into the school to learn about the progress of their children and increase their understanding of the educational programme. We also enjoy celebrating special events together with the parent community and the wider community. Bandung is a wonderful city to live in. The temperature is very pleasant year round and significantly milder than other Indonesian cities.

The city includes all the amenities of a big city and features many historical buildings. The natural landscape outside the city, including tea plantations, hot springs and a volcano adds another attraction to the city. Our students and parents enjoy a high quality, caring school in a pleasant city. We invite prospective parents to explore this website and visit the school to obtain more information.
